Wild Wolf Explorer Scout Unit (Wild Wolf ESU) was founded in February 2009 and we held our first ever Fireworks Display in November 2009. Since then the event has grown and grown, and we are now thrilled to host an amazing community event for thousands of guests from across North London. But who exactly are we, and how did we get to this point? Read on to find out a little bit about our history, and what we get up to when we’re not planning a fireworks display!

Who are we?

Wild Wolf ESU is an Explorer Scout Unit and part of North London Scout District, which is a registered charity and part of the Scouts. The Unit is run entirely by volunteers and has around 80 members aged between 14 and 18. We meet weekly at Scout Park, as well as running regular camps to places all over the UK and abroad. We are committed to running an exciting programme of adventurous activities including canoeing, hiking, climbing and camping. We help our members to work towards awards such as the King’s Scout Award and all levels of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, travelling hundreds of miles on expeditions every year!

We believe in making our adventures as youth-led as possible, and have an amazing team of Patrol Leaders within the Unit who help to design our programme and run activities. We are also very committed to creating an inclusive environment for our members, and have strong provisions for financial and additional needs support so that everyone can take part in our programme. We encourage our members to get stuck in and challenge themselves, providing adventurous activities in a safe environment, to help young people from North London develop skills for life and build lasting friendships.

What’s the Fireworks Display all about?

Our Fireworks Display is one of our favourite parts of the year. The Display is organised by the Wild Wolf ESU Leadership team and our young people, but we are joined by a whole host of other Scout Leaders and volunteers who come together to put on a great event for our community. As well as lots of stalls run by our own Explorers, we also have stalls led by other Explorer Units and Scout Groups from across North London.

We are a registered charity and the event is run completely by volunteers, so all the money that we raise stays within local Scouting and Scout Park. We believe that financial hardship should never be a barrier to taking part in our activities, so we use money raised at our Fireworks Display to support our financial hardship fund. We are also fundraising towards a number of other projects to help continue providing adventurous activities for young people in North London, including Leader training and new equipment.

Since holding our first Fireworks Display in 2009, it’s been amazing to watch our event grow and become a trusted family-favourite for thousands of people. We are so pleased to welcome guests back year after year – as well as meeting lots of new faces! We love hosting such a special event for our community.
