Wild Wolf Explorer Scout Unit is mixed group of adventurous 14 to 18 year olds, who meet once a week as part of the Scout Movement. Our group of around 40 members is led by a team of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers, who are joined by seven Patrol Leaders from the Unit to run a varied and exciting youth-led programme of activities and trips!
Have a sniff around our website, and take a look at the video below to find out what we’re all about…
What’s with the name?
Back in 2009, there were no Explorer groups in Haringey, meaning that there were no opportunities for young people to progress beyond Scouts (age 10 – 14 years). Recognising this problem, our Unit was created by Marlon Marton-Bell, who is still our Leader today, and those first Explorers chose our name! Wolves have always been an important theme in Scouting, and some people say we’re pretty wild…
What do we get up to?
Since the Unit was formed eight years ago, we’ve been on some amazing adventures in some incredible places. From staying close to home – climbing to the top of Snowdon in Wales, surfing in Cornwall, sleeping out in improvised shelters in the snow – to travelling to some more far-flung locations, we definitely take the word ‘explorers’ to heart! We go on at least one international camp each year, whether it’s to Jamborettes in places like Holland, Austria or Denmark, or visiting Kandersteg International Scout Centre in the Swiss Alps, where we’ve been to twice.
We also help our members to work towards awards such as the Queen’s Scout Award, Explorer Belt, and all levels of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, walking and paddling hundreds of miles on expeditions every year!
Who can join?
We pride ourselves on being open to everybody – the Unit is made up of a diverse and eclectic group of individuals encompassing many races, abilities, faiths, sexual orientations and economic backgrounds, and we strive to include and welcome anyone who wants to be part of our family. All we ask is that everyone also reciprocates this attitude. If you have any worries or questions, we’re always happy to help, just drop us a line at email@example.com.
Our core age range is from a member’s 14th birthday to their 18th. We only accept people younger than 14 in special circumstances, and when an Explorer turns 18 they can become part of their local Scout Network, which is for 18 to 25 year olds.
If you are interested in joining the Unit we would love to hear from you! To volunteer with us, visit our Volunteer page, and if you would like to become an Explorer, please take a look at our Join Us page.
